Sirohi, like Bundi and Kota traces it’s origins to the Chauhan Lakshmana who established himself at Kota. Lakshmana, famously known as Rao Lakhansi or Manik Rao seems to have carved an estate around Nadol taking advantage of the transition of power from Chavdas to Solankis in Gujarat. Nadol was destroyed in a fight against Mahmud of Ghazni during his reign but recovered in time. The Nadol successor states would fall to Muslims during the reign of Alauddin Khilji while Nadol accepted suzerainty. Baliraja defeated an invasion of Paramara Munja and childless he is, his uncle Vigrahapala ascended the throne. Mahendra seems to be a king of some note as we know he arranged a Swayamvara to his daughter and invited kings far and wide. Anahilla defeated Bhimadeva Solanki and Paramara Bhoja though Anahilla later submitted to Bhimadeva. Prithvipala defeated the Solankis - the love-hate relation with Solankis would continue with Aswaraja helping Solankis possibly against the Paramaras and Alhan in Saurashtra. It is possible Katuk, his eldest son predeceased him and his younger son Alhan succeeded him. Vigraharaja Chauhan of Sambhar sacked Nadol during his reign. The Bundi-Kota line descends from his brother Manak Rao. Alhan's youngest son Kirtipala or Ketu received an estate of twelve villages near Narlai from his father. The main Nadol line continued through Kelhana who was possibly a part of Gujarat's effort to stop Shihabuddin Ghori in 1178.

Ketu conquered Jalore and Siwana from their rulers Kuntapal Parmar and Viranarayan Parmar and made Jalore the seat of his estate but under the overall suzerainty of Nadol. As Jalore hill was called Suvarnagiri, Jalore Chauhans were called as Songaras.
