Deodar Taluka
Most of the Talukdars in Deodar rule a single village and in some parts, part of a village jointly with others. The Bhilria Waghelas who rule Deodar are called Bhilrias because they retreated to the area after the fall of Patan in 1297 to Bhilri which they lost to Muslims after they occupied Palanpur. They successively occupied Samau in Kankrej, Munjpur in Radhanpur before finally settling in Terwada. They were defeated again by Muslims and received Deodar as an estate from them. During the 1786 famine, the villages were vacated and even the chiefs fled their villages and Kolis occupied the tract. One of the chiefs, Punaji after serving the Nawab of Radhanpur for some time repopulated the villages. But, the main branch of the family then returned and demanded a return of their villages which Punaji refused to. The arbitration went to the British in 1828 and the British sided Punaji claiming the act was before they took charge but gave the elder branch a maintenance.
