Lord Krishna shifted the capital to Dwaraka and after the destruction of Yadavas after the death of Lord Krishna, the surviving Yadavas scattered everywhere. The Bhattis claim descent from Vajra or Vajranabha, the son of Aniruddha with a Vidarbha Princess. When Dwaraka was destroyed, Vajranabha was in Mathura and was going to Dwaraka to meet his father, he received the news of the destruction of Yadu race. He died of shock and while his son Sankhanabha was made the king and he returned back to Mathura, Vajranabha's younger son Khira proceeded on to Dwaraka. But he faced a rebellion in Mathura and fled towards Drawaka and became the king of Marusthali.
Khira had two sons - Jadeja and Yudhbhan. When Yudhbhan was on a pilgrimage, hearing his vows, the goddess woke him up from sleep and asked him his wish. He asked a kingdom. She said, rule these lands, and disappeared. When he woke up in the morning confused, he learnt that the king of the country died without a successor. When they were discussing who should succeed, the Prime Minister said of his dream that a descendant of Lord Krishna is in the area. Yudhbhan was made the king and the area got to be known as Jadu-ka-Dang or the Hills of Yadu.
